Drop your discs into a 7-column, 6-row grid and connect four.
In Connect 4 (also Four in a Row) you pick a column each turn and your disc falls to the lowest free square. It is a solved game: with perfect play the first player wins by starting in the middle column. In practice almost nobody plays perfectly, so a good plan still wins games.
Connect 4 rules
- Click one of the seven columns to drop your disc.
- It falls to the lowest free square of that column.
- The first player to connect four discs of their color, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, wins.
- If all 42 squares fill with no four in a row, it is a draw.
Connect 4 strategy
- Centre column: it belongs to the most possible lines of four, so take it when you can.
- Odd and even rows: counting from the bottom, the first player usually benefits from threats on odd rows and the second player on even rows.
- Check diagonals: they are the lines most often missed, both attacking and defending.
- Think about what you unlock: playing under a key square gives it to your opponent.
